PLA bioplastic is a plant-derived plastic made from fermented plant starch — typically corn or sugarcane. Short for polylactic acid, it's the most common plastic used in 3D printing and one of the most common bioplastics used in food-contact packaging.
Why PLA matters for drawer organisers
Three properties make PLA a good fit for kitchen drawer modules:
- Plant-derived. Made from renewable inputs, not crude oil.
- Food-safe. The food-grade variant is certified for direct food contact under EU and US standards.
- Print-on-demand friendly. Each module can be printed when ordered — no warehouse of bulk inventory.
Care rules
PLA is plant-derived and not heat-proof. Wipe-clean only: lift any module out, wipe with a damp cloth, slide it back. Avoid soaking and hot liquids.
